Food and Agricultural Import Regulations and Standards - Certification
The U.S-Panama Trade Promotion Agreement (TPA) entered into force on October 31, 2012. As outlined in the TPA, Panama issued special regulations that apply to imports of food and feed products from the United States. Due to certain sanitary and phytosanitary measures, and technical standards affecting trade in agricultural products, Panama recognizes the certificates and standards of the U.S. regulatory and sanitary inspection system.

The U.S.-Panama Trade Promotion Agreement entered into force on October 31, 2012, and established simplified requirements for the importation of U.S. food and feed products. Amendments to this bilateral agreement have facilitated U.S. beef, beef products and pet food exports to Panama. Consumers continue to perceive U.S. food products as high quality, wholesome and reliable, which has resulted in a continuous growth in demand. Panama imports 60% of all its agricultural product needs from the United States.

The U.S-Panama Trade Promotion Agreement (TPA) entered into force on October 31, 2012. As a result of the U.S.-Panama SPS/TBT agreement, which is an integral part of the TPA according to article 22.1, Panama issued special regulations that apply to imports of food and feed products from the United States, which recognize the high standards and certificates of the U.S. regulatory and sanitary inspection system.

This agreement established simplified requirements for the importation of U.S. food and feed products. Amendments to this Bilateral have facilitated U.S. beef, beef products and pet food exports.

Panamanian consumers continue perceiving U.S. food products as high quality, wholesome and reliable, which has resulted in a continuous growth in demand. Panama approved and ratified a Trade Promotion Agreement (TPA) with the U.S., which is at present pending for ratification by the U.S. Congress. In addition, the United States – Panama Agreement regarding certain sanitary and phytosanitary measures and technical standards affecting trade in agricultural products, is in force since December 20, 2006. This agreement established simplified requirements for the importation of U.S. food products.
